Wills on Mills

I remember going to Wills pub for the first time 3 years ago to see my friends Slipjoint (now Irrational) play. At the time, the band had 10 fans who showed up and they still rocked the house. Those days i was in my goth phase and  was famous for my 2 man mosh pits. Even though the floor wasn't packed, I still managed to have fun. Everyone who walks through the doors of Wills has a story to tell. It has been one of the coolest spots for new and established bands to  play for nearly 8 years. On friday me and my girl Jordana went to say goodbye to the Pub which will be demolished pretty soon. I'm really sad to see it go because it's been a great escape from the craziness of downtown.

Overspray at the Orlando Brewery

Art, music and beer...sounds like a good Satuday night, right?
Well it was...though initially Ashley, Natasha, and I thought we were heading to the boondocks...
Suprisingly, a little bit of underground culture came to light amongst all of the industrial buildings when we rounded the corner of Atlanta.
Though I myself am not a beer drinker, I heard the local brews from the Orlando Brewery were great, and you did not have to be intoxicated to appreciate the art...
On a miriad of canvases...including fences and mirrors...the spraypainted art was appreciated by an eclectic mix of emo, artsy, and beer aficianados.
There were also live stencilings done on bags, shirts...and anything else people brought forth...

A good night...if you didnt leave drunk off  the great beer..you had a buzz from the art...or maybe just the paint fumes...

We got some video interviews so check that out too...

Saturday at the Social

Saturday night Jordana and I hit up the Social for a lil musical treat.....it was packed!!  Wall to wall music fans, my favorite being the dude with dreads....pretty much the coolest person I've ever seen and definitely fit in with the whole reggae feel that night.  The Social is always an interesting stop, and Saturday was no exception, everyone was having a great time and was super chill......I think I'll have to head back sometime when I can drink and thoroughly enjoy the place!

SERVICE INDUSTRY NIGHT AT HOB!!

Sunday nights are usually spent recovering from hangovers acquired the night before. However, Jordana & I refused to fall into this normal routine. We embraced the good times found at Downtown Disney in order to spread the good news of Orlando City Beat. The House of Blues did not disappoint. Service Industry Night rocks! The doors open around 10:30 p.m. & any service industry worker 21 + receives free admission with valid work ID or a paycheck stub. DJ Sandy is usually on hand to play the best in Dance, Techno, & Electronic music. There is also a diverse crowd. Jordana & I talked with locals as well as people from various parts of Europe, Asia, & South America! Beside it being Service Industry Night.... It was sponsored by this company
called Flight Club so the running theme was retro airplane.  There were flight
attendents walking around passing out bags of peanuts and they also gave out
these airplane wing pins to pin to your shirt.  There was the usual drunk
people and break dancers. Check out this event as well as all of the smiling faces on O-lens!

Orlando Speed World

I know what you're thinking-- Bithlo? Why the hell would you be caught anywhere near Bithlo, especially on a Saturday night? There are people who live in our city that don't even know where Orlando Speed World is (indeed, one of our Shock Squaders got lost trying to find it). But we here at OrlandoCityBeat have a name for the rare breed that frequents OSW-- and no, it ain't Redneck. We call them Engineheads. And they were out in full force this weekend at Saturday Night Street Drags.

Built in 1966, Orlando Speed World has the only 1/4 mile NHRA sanctioned dragstrip in Orlando. Despite popular belief, SR 436, SR 50 and I-4 are not sanctioned by the NHRA as legal racetracks. So unless you enjoy quiet evening rides in the back of a police car, take it to the track.

For the low price of $15 USD (pesos are not accepted) you may take your 580 HP pushing Camaro, your '94 Civic with intake and super sweet body kit, or your mom's mini-van down the track. This price also includes FREE ambulance service should your body need to be recovered from mangled and burning wreckage.

The dragstrip at Orlando Speed World is about as much fun as you can have in your car, without being arrested.

Anime Festival 2006

Waking up from a four day coma ain't easy, but yours truly raged against the dying of the light or

in my case last Saturday, the dying of the strobe light, to recount the events of raving, costumes,

and full on body paint at Anime Festival 2006.

I am considered an outsider, underling, or intruder when it comes to the world of anime and video gaming. But putting aside my naiveté of Japanese graphics and chafed thumbs, I waged through the endless hallways of exaggeration and was finally schooled.  J.Eaz, photog. extraordinaire, captured the blindingly bright colors and dwarfing accessories on still life digital, which all you curious folk can check out on Best of O-Lens.  But to get the true Hollywood story behind on the where-abouts of your favorite childhood characters and beyond, check out O-Lens Live. NOW!
