Saturday Night Breakz

Oh Orlando, where hast thou electronic scene gone? I'll tell you where, it went to Firestone. Unfortunately, you didn't.

A lot of you electronic kids whine and complain how the Orlando scene sucks and there aren't any good clubs around. Well you're wrong. So stop crying about it and get your ass to the dancefloor.

Firestone put on a great party with Saturday Night Breakz. What makes a great party you ask? Awesome local DJ's spinning breaks till 2am (okay, well Firestone doesn't make the laws here!) a friendly crowd and bartenders who make sure you get hydrated properly. What more can you ask for?

As a Miami native, I know a thing or two about good music, people. And last night was on par with any of Miami's hot spots. Including Space, and you can quote me on that. Who else in Orlando pulls in as much world renowned talent as Firestone? That's right....nobody.

And for those of you that THINK you know about Firestone, if you haven't been there in a couple months, you just don't know! The club is undergoing a HUGE renovation and the staff promises it will blow your mind. So if you're into breakbeats, techno, drum and bass or whatever, make sure to check out Firestone. And add them on Myspace at myspace.com/clubatfirestone. They'll hook you up.

Chasity and yours truly, (that'd be me, Ashley :) give FIrestone two thumbs up for showing Orlando how to do it right.

And that's all she wrote. See you on the dancefloor!

Wall Street and Savage Crevice

Hokay, so, Saturday night, I met the Shock Squad's two newest members:  Ryan and Marquis.  After a brief training session and passing out their shirts (Marquis' was waaaay too small, much to my and Ryan's amusement) we headed down to Wall Street for a little picture taking action.  The guys picked it up really quick (even though it's super hard to figure out....not so much) and I abandoned them to interview the interesting characters on Wall Street for O-Lens live.  Among the eccentrics were the 80's pub crawl attendees, dressed as 80's rockers, "Savage Crevice".  They never dropped character, and immediately I felt transported back to a time of teased hair, aquanet and spandex.  Ahhh the good ol' days.  Even though I was still watching Sesame Street, I can appreciate a little old school nostalgia.  There was the dancing man in Cantina, and if you were in Cantina at ANY time during Saturday night, you know exactly what I mean.  Caroline, a future bride, and her bachelorette party; a bashful birthday girl, and the random crooner who sang Happy Birthday to her; and the usual suspects.  The band was pretty good, but I was distracted by the diminished crowd (very slow for a Saturday, but what it lacked in quantity, it definitley made up for in quality. Strangest but most fun people of life and.....really hot guys!....strange?) and didn't pay them too much attention.  Ryan and Marquis headed to Church Street after a while, and it seems they had a good time.

Make sure to keep an eye out for the Shock Squad all this summer, as we try to document all of the crazy happenings in Orlando.  And keep checking the website so that you're informed of the crazy happenings before they uh....happen.

Independent Bar, Baby

It was just a typical night at I-Bar this Thursday, that is besides the fact homegirl Chasity was in her ShockSquad gear rather than her usual sex-a-licious trendy threads.  It was a little awkard trying to work at a place we usually frequent for intoxicating purposes, but we CityBeat girls are professionals and didn't drink a drop while trying to capture the party-goers in their best light.

After conducting some pretty dope interviews for this week's upcoming O-Lens Live with the outside crew, I made the usual rounds towards the back of the house and up to the balcony to see if I could find some of what I like to call, Drunk 'n' Crazies.  Come to find, everyone was pretty chill and not trying to embarass themselves too bad for all of Orlando to point and stare at.  I did, however, run into 3 naughty school girls who were everything but bashful when it came to explaining how much they hate cheesy pick up lines but love dressing scandalous for their boyfriend's birthday.  Who knew the whole school girl thing was still in but hey, to each his own.

To find out more on how to party Independent style while still trying to get around the whole,"I'm not of age" snafoo - check out O-Lens Live, schnookums.

Parliament House

Last weekend I put my big girl pants on and ventured out to OBT, all by my lonesome, to visit The Parliament House for Gay Days.  Although I didn't have any of my other Shock Squad homegirls to wage havoc with, the P-house club goers made me feel quite welcomed in my state of loneliness.  Thanks guys!

My only dilemma:  Being surrounded by so many HOT guys with great hair and none of them were for me!  I felt like a diabetic kid winning the Golden Ticket to Willy Wonka's Factory.

Cruel and unusual punishment.

After mingling with some jingling that I could never jangle, I continued my solo trek through the resort running into a naturally cherubic angel as well as some past acquaintances to both of our surprises.  Final summation:  Great event filled with some of the friendliest, most welcoming people who posses the best grooming habits I have seen in a long time.
