Matt Butcher

The break up of a successful local band such as The Heathens might have come as a surprise to some, it was for me.  But former frontman Matt Butcher’s songwriting proved to be stronger than ever with his set at The Social tonight.

For a man with a big heart, and big lyrics like: “Girl, I haven’t met you yet…I’ll kick you outta my bed; what was your name again…common use me and I’ll use you too” one wouldn’t expect his stature to be so humble and slight.  But with ultimate conviction, he expressed the frustrations that a lot of Orlando single men and women have gone through by also stating that he “went down to I Bar and lost you in a sea of platinum bangs.”

He’s such a strong singer songwriter that he captivated the crowd of sober newbies and old Heathens that would normally be beer swillin’ and revelin’ in the debauchery.  Guitar, harmonica and all, he even covered Bob Dylan’s “Buckets of Rain” with such sincerity that everyone could relate.
