Alicia Lyman gives you minute by minute coverage of the Anti Pop Music Festival in downtown Orlando
Gasoline Heart
Okay, I wasn’t gonna cover this set, but I stuck around for various reasons and am very happy that I did. Based on a previous Anti-pop performance I witnessed last year, Gasoline Heart left a confusingly bitter memory in my head and I wasn’t sure I wanted to say anything if I didn’t have anything nice to say at all.
However, upon blogging my little ditty about Matt Butcher, I forgot that Luis DeFabrizio of Gasoline Heart would also be performing an acoustic set. While feverishly typing and my assistant Amber proof-reading, I ended up overhearing a burly voice similar to “The Boss” onstage that captured my attention. I decided to go waddle through the crowd and give his tunes a second chance.
In such an intimate setting, Luis’ sentiments about growing up and turning 30 might not appeal to the kids these days, but he spoke and sang from a place in his heart that’s been around the block…not to mention a lot of soul searching.
He threw a bit of Tom Petty’s “The Apartment Song” and “Teenage Wasteland” from The Who around in his set and entertained in such a sarcastic and witty way that not only the audience loved it, but it won me over too.
