BB King's grand opening hit some snags

I love some deep fried pickles, but the ones offered up at B.B. King's Blues Club last night as part of its VIP grand opening were some of the saltiest I've had in a while. I'm no food critic but the pickles, salad and chicken were something to be desired. But it was free so why am I bitching? Actually the ribs were mighty tasty and the collard greens were the best I'd ever had. Casey said it tasted like they added sugar, and noted the whole dinner could possibly kill the club's namesake if he had tried it (Mr. King has diabetes for those of you not in the know).

But after a beer and a couple of sips of a Lucille (the bar's namesake blue drink that tasted like it had rum, blue curacao and fruit juices) I was full and ready to see B.B. The stage is intimately set up in the center of the club and for those folks who were at the tables in front, they looked to be close enough to sit in B.B. King's lap. There is tons of seating throughout the club (really a restaurant) but they could stand to lose some of it, seriously ass-to-elbow in a lot of spots.

It would be cool if they cleared out some of the seating at night and utilized this as a music venue, there is definitely more than enough space, but for now I think it will be the house band that takes the stage as people eat their ribs. Speaking of taking the stage, when B.B. King did the crowd got crazy, I even got goosebumps being that close but I don't think B.B. was all that excited when he was getting feedback screeching out to the audience on the second song causing the sound guys to lower his volume and causing the audience in the back straining to hear the blues' legend.

After a few songs, Casey and I called it. One too many Lucille's and a meal that could feed two people a sleepy Kelly makes.

I'm curious if the club will bring more people to the ghost town that is Pointe Orlando, where BB King's is located. Only time will tell.

As far as salty...I am a salt addict so I thought the pickles were great. As you said the other food was great...and like you...I drank the Lucille all night and that is my new fav ****tail. I may be in love with it as much as B.B. loves his guitar's namesake ; - ) To your point about the tables being "*** to elbows", our server said that they packed the tables in just for the concert because the demand was so huge and they wanted to get as many people in as possible to see the King of blues. She said on non-concert nights that there are no tables around the stage so it becomes a dance floor. I will "Let the Good Times Roll" on that dance floor to the house band as they rock!

I happened to get there early and was very impressed with all the new restaurants that are now in Pointe Orlando. In addition to the new B.B. Kings Blues Club, there is a Tommy Bahamas, Oceanaire Seafood, some cool new shoppes and they have totally redone the place. Now that Universal Boulevard is connected from I-4 to the Beeline it makes it easy to get to the Pointe without ever having to get on I-Drive. But no matter what goes on with Pointe Orlando...I will be a regular at B.B. King's Blues Club for the awesome food and the house band...they are awesome musciaans and girls...they are hotties!

B.B. King may be 82, but when he is on stage, you can tell he feels 16. What an awesome musican and entertainer. How about the horn section? I can't wait until he comes back again. We are lucky to finally have a place to go listen to great music in a cool venue and sip on adult beverages and have great eats. By the way...are they open for lunch? And is there a cover when there isn't a concert?

Good to know about the tables Brooke, that makes sense. As far as lunch Angel, yes, they are open for it. And I don't believe there is a cover if there isn't a concert.
