Midnight Madness

This weekend Amanda, Melanie and I were flashing at the Florida Film Festival at the Enzian. Now, now- keep it clean, kids. I know what you're thinking. OCB was on the scene sponsoring the Midnight Shorts, which was clearly the place to be for all movie buffs. Let me say, even if they are normally shy working behind the camera, everyone was fully prepared for their 15 minutes of fame- Academy Award speeches and all.

The crowd worked it for the camera long before we made it through the front door. They were lined up for blocks waiting for the movies, the mayhem, and the Orlando CityBeat Shock Squad, of course. Fans of the film festival are hardcore- they were there for the opening event on Friday and will be returning throughout the week (Florida Film Festival runs March 23rd- April 1st) to check out the best of the best in Indie film.

The show before the main event was just as entertaining.  Remember the mayhem I mentioned earlier? Well it came in the form of a rapping dog DJ Spot, and his companion, a crazy guy with a beanie. They handed out free CDs and other errr...items for all attendees.  O-Rock also came out to kick off the midnight movies.

As always, a good time was had by all. Until next time Orlando- XOXO Dina

Shenanigans!

I dont know if that is how you spell it but it only seems appropriate that for St Patrick's day affairs I get to use the word SHENANIGANS!!!  So there it is....Anywho,  I'm sure its no surprise to find the Shock Squad at the place to be for St Patty's and by that I am of course referring to the Wall St celebration.  That's right Saturday was the day, and no, people were not just wearing green for the kick of it, serious pinching would have occurred otherwise.  If you didn't know who where to go or you couldn't figure out where it was downtown ,then you were already drunk my friend, because it was packed to the max.  One of the featured bands that night was the Damien Dempsey band, and my oh my did they do a good job on one of the two stages. We ran into some authentic Irish folk, and by that I mean there was some difficulty understanding every word that came out their mouths (some guess work and repeating was necessary to clarify).  What we came to understand was that even those born in the homeland had to admit that the Wall St celebration did them right and threw down a celebration worthy of the name.  There was traditional Irish music playing right when you walked in and I do  believe the same 10 people were dancing jigs from the time we walked in to the time we left.....some things never get old.  From tall hats and long stalkings, to green bow ties and kilted skirts  I could go on forever.... however....just know that when it goes down on Wall St you need to be there, after all Shock Squad Orlando City Beat will be there.....see you for the next flash and dont forget to check out the Music site on OCB to see more of the featured bands that night!!!!!   We will see you next time for some more crazy S H E N A N I G A N S ..............

No more Blues....

Hey guys what's up?  This time you could find us flashing innocent bystanders at Tanqueray's on the corner of Pine St and Orange Ave downtown.  Its a little strange walking down some stairs to enter a bar but once your inside its a decent place to be.  Diverse and friendly crowd with a cozy homey layout makes you get over any weirdness right away.  At the bar you can find Melinda the owner serving drinks to the newbies and regulars with great finesse.  Everyone we talked to definitely wanted us to make sure we let the rest of Orlando know about Tanqueray's and what a great spot it can be for you and yours...so come out and at least check it out!  The featured band that night was the Teague Stefan Band and they played the blues like they were born for it so definitely check them out. .....And definitely check out the OrlandoCityBeat Music page for more local music and new developments.  See you crazy folks this Saturday at Heritage Square for the St Patty's Celebration!!!
